Blog Launches Matinee at the Bijou

Medford, Ore. (PRWeb) December 18, 2006 -- The Producers of Matinee at the Bijou hosted by Debbie Reynolds announced today a new blog, "Bijou is Back," http://matineebijou.blogspot.com, is anchoring a Web-based campaign designed to speak directly to fans of the original series while engaging a new generation of pop-culture junkies in the production of the sequel series. The Blog has already been featured on Boing Boing, http://boingboing.hexten.net/2006/12/08/return_of_matinee_at.html, and is registering fan comments.

During its initial eight-year run in the 80's, Matinee at the Bijou was one of America's favorite entertainment programs - and was frequently rated in the top-ten national PBS programs.

With the green light for PBS broadcast and home DVD distribution in place, the producers are seeking series sponsors. The Group is working with PBS executives to focus the search.

"Bijou is Back" features posts by BijouBob, an avatar created to represent the input and points-of-view of the producers. Current posts chart the history of the project; the series' content, and the technology involved - including interesting historic anecdotes. The new blog is designed to take the content and production of Matinee at the Bijou beyond the universe of potential sponsors and involve fans in the process.

The new blog also features links to video clips from the original series, and a link to a podcast interview with Greg Luce, founder of Sinister Cinema (http://www.sinistercinema.com/). Luce is a fascinating character, with an encyclopedic personal archive of classic, B-movies. The podcast focuses on his role in the return of Matinee at the Bijou and his vivid descriptions of some of the unique content appearing in new series.

Bijou producers have also uploaded a number of teasers and previews to YouTube, Google Video, ourmedia.com and archive.com. More submissions are planned, providing fans a chance to sample Bijou magic and experience some of the weekly fare planned for PBS next year.

According to executive producer Mark DuMond, PBS Plus will feed the new first season to PBS member stations, providing each station with three years of unlimited broadcast rights on all PBS HD and SD (Standard Definition) channels. PBS Video has licensed the home video distribution rights for a period of ten years.

Key members of the original production team have reunited to repeat the magic that made the original series a pop culture phenomenon. Bob Campbell, co-creator and producer of the original Matinee at the Bijou series is heading the programming and production team. Sam Harrison, director of the original series, is once again directing.

Veteran film distributors and archivists of classic motion pictures have joined the Bijou team. In addition to Greg Luce, Conrad Sprout of Hollywood Select Video and Ron Hall of Festival Films bring their extensive personal collections to the project. As a result, the sequel series features rare and seldom seen content. All re-mastered from the cleanest source to HD format.
